Our non-profit, CCMA-accredited school is dedicated to holistic principles, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and leadership skills for success in a changing world.
Learn more about usWe offer an authentic Montessori education that is accredited by the Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators. This sets us apart from other schools and ensures that your child receives a genuine Montessori education.
Learn More About Our AccreditationWe recognize that Kawartha Montessori School is located in Nogojiwanong, in the area that is still governed by the Williams treaty.
We respectfully acknowledge KMS is situated upon the traditional territory of the Mississauga Anishinaabeg and we give thanks to the Anishinabe (a-nish-na-bay) Peoples for the ability to work and play on their traditional lands.
As treaty partners, we would like to extend our gratitude to the seven nations who have been caretakers of this place since time immemorial – the Mississaugas of Curve Lake, Scugog Island, Hiawatha and Alderville and the Chippewas of Beausoleil, Georgina Island and Rama.
We recognize those students and members of the KMS community who are Indigenous to this place. As a community, we commit ourselves to respecting and reconciling the past wrongdoings of Settlers to Indigenous Peoples.
We are committed to continuing our own learning & teaching about the true history of this place and what it means to live here respectfully today, in relation with Indigenous Peoples and Lands. We offer our gratitude to our First Nations for their care for, and teachings about, the earth and our relations. May we honour those teachings.
At Kawartha Montessori School, we are dedicated to building a community where families and educators work together to foster an environment that is diverse, and inclusive. We believe that by educating about the world around us and promoting an atmosphere of acceptance and celebration, we can raise responsible, compassionate individuals who respect and celebrate all people. Our vision is a world where every student leaves KMS with not only a strong academic foundation but also a deep appreciation for the value of inclusion, representation, and acceptance. We are committed to celebrating and embracing uniqueness, and promoting anti-bias education. We trust that our students, families, and educators will join us in upholding our values of diversity and equity, creating a safe and inclusive space for all.
Learn More About Our CommitmentsOur Commitments:
As a school we are committed to treating all of our community members with dignity and respect regardless of race, ethnic origin, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or any other grounds that are protected by Ontario’s Human Rights Code.
Celebrating and Embracing Uniqueness: We are committed to fostering a culture of inclusion where every student feels valued, respected, included and empowered to be themselves. We celebrate and embrace uniqueness, recognizing that our differences are what make us stronger as a community.
Anti-Bias Education: Our curriculum is designed to promote anti-bias education, helping our students develop critical thinking skills and the ability to challenge stereotypes and prejudice. We encourage them to question and understand the world, its complexities, and its diverse perspectives.
Age appropriate learning: The Montessori method guides our teachers to follow the children regarding questions and conversations. If students have questions, they are answered thoughtfully and in an age-appropriate way.
Representation: We strive to provide representation in all aspects of our school, from our teaching materials and staff to the stories we share and the voices we amplify. We believe that representation matters and that it allows our students to see themselves in their education.
Community Engagement: Our commitment to community extends beyond our school walls. We engage with our local and global communities to create opportunities for our students to learn about the world around them, fostering a sense of responsibility for a more just and equitable society.
Lifelong Learning: We are devoted to ongoing learning and professional development as a school. We are always assessing ways that our administrators and educators can enhance and cultivate a sense of safety and inclusiveness within our community and classrooms.
We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to benefit from an authentic Montessori education. To this end, we have set up a bursary fund to support students who face financial constraints and cannot afford to pay tuition fees.
