Week of Sept. 4th-7th

Welcome (Back) to Middle School!

We had a great first week back and we all survived the heat. I must say, I am pretty excited about the arrival of the cooler weather!

Here are some important documents that we wanted you to have:

Middle School Schedule: Middle School Schedule 2018-2019 – Overview

Important Dates Document: Important Dates 201819

Please check the blog posts each week as you will find a summary and photos of the week’s events, as well as any important information that you need to know for the upcoming week.

PAST WEEK

Grocery Store Outing

This past Friday we took a trip to the Independent to check out what the store has to offer and to complete a Scavenger Hunt that forced us to find our way around the store! The students came up with some pretty creative answers to the Hunt! All in all the trip was a great success. Thank you to Darlene and Christal for getting us there and back safely!

UPCOMING

Grocery Pick-Up – Monday, September 10th

Thank you to Ida who will be taking the students to pick up groceries tomorrow (Monday).

Swim Test – Tuesday, September 11th

It is industry standard for students going on a school expedition to complete a swim test each year. Arti and Neel Joshi have kindly offered us their pool for the second year in a row to complete this test. I am a National Lifeguard Service certified guard so I will administer the swim test. Students will swim 4 at a time. Once the test is complete, we will return back to school. This is really just an opportunity to gauge student level of comfort in and near the water. Students will be asked to swim some lengths of the pool (any stroke) and tread water for 1 minute. The swim test will take place on Tuesday, September 11th in the morning. Students should wear their bathing suits to school under their clothes to save time. They will be given a place to change at the Joshi’s house before returning to school. Thank you to Christal, Arti and Judy for volunteering to drive.

Here is the Notification of Off-Premises Activity for this trip: NOOPA MS – Sept 11 Joshi Pool

Digital Literacy Workshop – Thursday, September 13th

We will have the pleasure of welcoming Pat Maitland to the Middle School on Thursday afternoon to talk about Digital Literacy and about how we want to portray ourselves online. We are really looking forward to this session with Pat and we know that we will all learn a lot from her.

Fall Welcoming – Friday, September 14th

Please join us after school on Friday to visit all of the classrooms and say hi to the teachers (and students!) This is a very informal visit but rumour has it some grade 7s are planning on making some homemade treats!

LOOKING AHEAD

Grocery Pick-Up – Monday, September 17th

Thank you to Judy who will be taking the students to pick up groceries next Monday.

Bike Trip – September 18th – 21st

We are finalizing details for the trip. Please expect more information to come your way early this week.

I hope you had a great weekend and I look forward to seeing you tomorrow!

MS Update: May 28-June 1

Hello Middle School Families,

We can’t believe how quickly the end of the year is approaching! We are already halfway through exams and we are off to camp next week!

Here is an update and some photos from this past week.

Moving Up Days

We have had the pleasure of hosting some of the grade 6s so they can have a chance to see what life in the Middle School is like before joining in September. A few of the boys joined Luke to make sushi on Thursday! A job well done, we are looking forward to having them in our class.

Jump Rope for Heart

The Middle School students served as Team Leaders for our Jump Rope for Heart Day on Friday. They did an excellent job supervising and engaging the younger students. They also did a great job setting up and taking down the activities. We are very proud of them and the way that they carried themselves on Friday. Way to go Middle School!

Once again, we have a busy week ahead of us. Here are some things to take note of!

Exams

Our final exams take place this week. Science will be on Monday at 1pm and Language on Tuesday at 9am.

Drama Presentation

The final MS Drama Presentation is on Wednesday, June 6th at 4pm. We hope to see you there!

Interviews

Parent Teacher Interviews take place this week. If you have not yet signed up, please do so as soon as possible.

PD Day!

Friday is a PD Day as we will be conducting interviews that day.

Work

We are nearing the end of the year but there is still work to be done. Please remind your son or daughter that at this time of year it is increasingly important that deadlines are met and that work is being completed. There is a lot of fun to be had over the next few weeks but the work must be prioritized.

We hope you had a great weekend, see you tomorrow!

French UE Bake Sale

Bonjour,

On Friday, June 1st, the UE students will be hosting their annual Vente de Patisserie. The bake sale will be from 3:15-3:45 pm in the Specialist room and we are asking everyone to bring in their own containers for the baked goods they choose to purchase. The items will all be nut free and there will be ingredient lists for those with food allergies. We are asking for a minimum of .25 per baked item purchased. All of the proceeds go towards the UE year end trip. Thank you so much for your continued support.

Merci!

Jodi and the UE students
