French websites

Bonjour Parents,

I would like to extend a huge “MERCI” for your continuous support of the French program at KMS. We have had a fun filled year learning French at all levels. At the request of some parents I have composed a list of websites that may be helpful for summer practice.

  1. Duolingo: This is a fantastic French website that allows students to advance at their own pace.  It works on vocabulary, grammar, listening and speaking (junior/ intermediate)
  2. Bescherelle: This is a tool that provides all verb conjugations (intermediate/senior)
  3. larousse.fr: This provides an online French dictionary, encyclopedia, games and cooking dictionary ( intermediate/senior)
  4. parlonsfrancais-  real life scenarios using French language (intermediate/advanced)
  5. www.digitaldialects.com: French games ( primary levels)
  6. www.french-games.net: French games( primary/ junior levels)
  7. Songs: Julie Powers-Bonjour comment ca va, Counting songs
  8. Gregg Le rock
  9. Any songs that review colours, numbers, sports, animals, food in French ( primary)

I wish you all a safe and happy summer holiday! Merci beaucoup et bonnes vacances!

Merci beaucoup

Bonjour!

Thank you so much to all the UE parents who donated baking for our Vente de Patisseries! It was a huge success and we couldn’t have done it without your help. The students love this year end event! Any containers left behind are on the kitchen counter.

Merci,

Jodi and the UE students

French UE Bake Sale

Bonjour,

On Friday, June 1st, the UE students will be hosting their annual Vente de Patisserie. The bake sale will be from 3:15-3:45 pm in the Specialist room and we are asking everyone to bring in their own containers for the baked goods they choose to purchase. The items will all be nut free and there will be ingredient lists for those with food allergies. We are asking for a minimum of .25 per baked item purchased. All of the proceeds go towards the UE year end trip. Thank you so much for your continued support.

Merci!

LE French

Bonjour,

LE students have recently started a new unit called “Une Maison pas comme les Autres.” This is an amusing unit that teaches vocabulary associated with “une maison,”(a house) and “les immeubles.” (furniture) The theme is based on alien houses and their unique designs. The culminating task for this unit will be to design  “une maison” for an alien family and label it with French vocabulary. C’est tres amusant!

CASA French

Bonjour,

CASA students have been busy in French lessons learning about sports, and animals in French. We have also continued to review counting, colours and body parts. The students love the learning games we play to review vocabulary. I hope you are enjoying this beautiful weather. Il fait beau! Bon weekend!

Bonnes Vacances

Bonjour,

I am wishing everyone a happy and safe March Break. When we return, there is lots planned for all levels of French! The CASA students will be learning new sport vocabulary and doing actions for each sport. The LE students will be finishing their writing and picture activities for “Comment Y Aller?” They will be creating puppet shows to portray a different version of the play. In UE we will finish the unit on “Soyons Branches.” Culminating tasks have yet to be decided. MS will be having grammar lessons on “le passe compose” and they will also be starting their comic strips online as a culminating task for the unit on Ado Monde.

Merci,

Jodi

UE French- La grande competition de poutine

Bonjour!

Next week the UE students will be creating a poutine recipe in their French groups. They will prepare their poutine recipe in French class and Joe, Kristina and Kristi will judge the creations on their taste, texture, smell, appearance and overall appeal. The students always enjoy this especially because they get to eat also! On aime beaucoup la poutine!

Passez un bon weekend avec vos familles!

MS French

Bonjour!

MS students have just started a unit called “Ado Monde” which follows a theme of the preteen social world. It teaches vocabulary surrounding different personality types, friendships, families and the pre teen at school. Grammar concepts are based on “le comparatif, le superlatif, les adjectifs, et le passe compose.” The final task for this unit will be to create a “roman photo” using a website called “Bitstrips.” This is a fantastic website where the students can be very creative in making their own online comic strip.

Passez un bon weekend avec vos familles!

French Midterm Exam Results

Salut!

All I can say is ” Fantastique!” The results on the French exam are excellent and I am so proud of all of you who studied and prepared effective study notes. Your efforts are truly reflected in your exam results. For those of you who were absent , you will be writing on Monday, February 5th during your regular French times. Merci!

French Booklets

Salut!

CASA North and South students started their booklets based on the play this week. This is where they can connect the oral vocabulary they learned from the play to the written word. Depending on the child’s stage of language development, some will be able to read the words and or sentences with each picture in the booklet. Some will maybe tell the story with a few words in French or some may retell the story in English. All are stages of growth in second language learning.

On aime beaucoup le francais!!
