Casa Update: Feb / Mar 2020

Hello Casa families,

We hope that you are enjoying winter weather! We have been studying winter birds and squirrels recently, and are very excited to share with you this fun link. Some of your children have already been using it!

We also want to say thank you to those families who continue to label their children’s clothing. As the spring weather approaches, we rely on your labels to help us keep everyone on track.

Happy birding!

Songs We Love

The Green Grass Grew All Around

Oh in the woods there was a tree
The prettiest tree
You ever did see
And the tree was in the ground
And the green grass grew all around, all around, and the green grass grew all aroundAnd on that tree
There was a limb
The prettiest limb
That you ever did see
And the limb was on the tree
And the tree in the ground
And the green grass grew all around, all around, and the green grass grew all aroundAnd on that limb
There was a branch
The prettiest branch
That you ever did see
And the branch was on the limb,
And the limb was on the tree,
And the tree was in the ground
And the green grass grew all around, all around, and the green grass grew all aroundAnd on that branch
There was a nest
The prettiest nest
That you ever did see
And the nest was on the branch
And the branch was on the limb
And the limb was on the tree
And the tree was in the ground
And the green grass grew all around, all around, and the green grass grew all aroundAnd in that nest
There was an egg
The prettiest egg
That you ever did see
And the egg was in the nest
And the nest was on the branch
And the branch was on the limb
And the limb was on the tree
And the tree was in the ground
And the green grass grew all around, all around, and the green grass grew all aroundAnd in that egg
There was a bird
The prettiest bird
That you ever did see
And the bird was in the egg
And the egg was in the nest
And the nest was on the branch
And the branch was on the limb
And the limb was on the tree

Casa January 7 to 11, 2019

Welcome back! It is hard to believe that January is upon us already! We hope that you all had a wonderful holiday with your children. Earlier this week we asked your children to tell us about their favourite memories from their holiday. You might be surprised to hear that very few of them spoke about their new toys, but instead shared about time spent with family.

Next Week: It will be another fun filled week of learning in Casa! Please be sure to read the important e-mail sent today regarding winter gear for your child.

Casa Tip of the Week: Consistency for your Casa aged child brings a sense of trust and comfort. Our programming is designed with this in mind. Please do your very best to arrive on time every day and to allow your child to remain at school without interruption whenever possible. We greatly appreciate your support.

Casa News November 19 to 22, 2018

This week in Casa:  We have been working really hard on preparing for our concert!  This year we will be singing and signing “It’s a Small World”.  Please encourage your child to practice at home!

Next Week in Casa:   We will continue to toboggan, so long as the weather cooperates!  Feel free to leave your child’s toboggan in the “toboggan holder” in the backyard, if you would like.  Also, you can ask your child to tell you some of the safety rules around tobogganing here at school.

Tip of the Week:  Looking for something to do this weekend?  Please label your child’s winter clothing!  It would be so helpful to us, as everyone seems to have the same mittens and snow pants.  If you have time to allow your child to practice dressing in their complete winter gear, that would also be helpful.

Casa Update Nov. 12-16

This Week:

Our Casa classrooms were able to watch and cheer on their fellow schoolmates at our very first cross country meet this past Thursday! Some of our students even made their own signs!

Next Week:

Reminder there is a P.D. Day this coming Friday, November 23rd.  Please don’t forget picture retake day is Monday, November 19th.

Tip of The Week:

Sending extra socks with your child next week will help with those wet feet we get from playing outside. Thank you again and we hope you have a lovely weekend in the snow!

Casa News Week of Oct 15th to 19th, 2018

This week:

We have had another wonderful week of growing our brains!  We have had so many lessons, experiences and adventures that are helping our students to develop their whole selves.

On Saturday October 20th from 10 to 12 we will be hosting an Open House.  We are hoping that you can share this information with anyone you feel might be interested in an authentic Montessori education for their child.

Next Week:

We are excited to be hosting a guest chef on Monday.  Thank you for sending in your veggies for our Stone Soup extravaganza! Picture Day will take place on October 23rd.  Friday October 26th is a PA day.  We will be running Parent Teacher interviews for our new students next week.  Please be sure to sign up via the email you received, if you have not already done so.  We kindly ask that you do not bring your child to the interview.  If you need to arrange after school care, you should contact the office as soon as possible.

Casa Tip:

THANK YOU for labeling your child’s clothing!  We ask that you continue to do so as the seasons change.  You can not imagine how helpful this small detail is.

It is essential that your child get adequate sleep each night, in order that they may be their best selves at school.  One fantastic strategy to increase your child’s sleep is to put them to bed just a few minutes earlier each night; even if it is just by three minutes each day.  By the end of the week your child will be getting an extra 15 minutes of sleep each day!  This can have a major impact on their ability to focus, learn and manage in social situations.

Casa News: Oct 8 to 12, 2018

This Week:  Our Casa students had an exciting visit from our local fire department to talk about fire safety! Your children may have come home to remind you to test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, which should be done once per month. We learned what to do in case of a fire: “stop, drop and roll”, as well as “get low and go”.

Next Week:  Please don’t forget to mark Chapter’s Day on your calendars!  It will be held on Wednesday, October 17th. This evening puts “fun” in fundraising!

Tip of the Week:  Now that the weather is changing, please remember to label all of your children’s new outdoor wear so we can better ensure your child goes home with the correct clothing. Even though we are entering into cold and wet weather, we still go outside to play! Please send weather appropriate clothing to ensure your child is warm and dry.

Hope to see you at the AGM and Parent and Staff Social tonight.

Many Thanks!

Your Casa Team

Casa Week of September 10 to 14

This week we welcomed back our returning Casa families.  It has been wonderful reconnecting with our dear friends.  We are excited to be building our classroom community!

Next week children will be receiving many new lessons.  Hard work and growing children will mean that your little ones will be very tired by the end of the day.  Please support their development by getting to bed on time (or even a bit earlier).

Tip:  We continue to ask that you label your child’s belongings.  It is also very important to our programming that your child arrives on time (8:30am – 8:45am) and is picked up on time (3:30pm – 3:45pm).  Thank you all so much for your support!

Casa News: Week of May 28-June 1

This Week:

After receiving 200 donated trees in our backyard last week, the students have done a wonderful job this week of nourishing our new trees with lots of water each day!  Using hoses, buckets, and watering cans, the entire school has pulled together to make sure our new trees grow big and strong!

Next Week:

Parent Teacher Interviews are happening next week. Please be sure to sign up for a time using the link that Dianne emailed this week.  We look forward to meeting with each of you!

Tip of the Week:

Casa News: Week of May 21st- 25th

This Week:

Our Heart and Stroke fundraiser has kicked off and pledge forms have started coming in. Thank you to those who have donated or helped in some way to make this fundraiser a success!

Showcase performance is happening tomorrow night! Although, the Casa students are not preforming, they are still welcome to attend Grace United Church from 5-7 to support and celebrate the talents of their older friends.

Lastly, you may hear your child singing out loud to the song True Colours by Cyndi Lauper. This is because we have started practicing singing and signing our end of the year Graduation Song.

Next Week:

Goodbye May and hello June! Our last week of May will be filled with new learning and planting. If you have extra seeds lying around at your house, please send them in with your child.

Tip/Reminder

As the end of the school year fast approaches, please ensure you are keeping up to date with e-mails and website posts. It is a busy time of year for all!
