Novel Study

We have chosen three novels as a part of our Novel Study this term. They all have a common theme of “Acknowledging and Celebrating Differences”. The reading requirements by grade are below:

Grade 8s (Two Required Books, Option to Read the Third Book)
Book One: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time by: Mark Haddon
Book Two: The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by: Sherman Alexie

Grade 7s (One Required Book, Choice Between Two Other Books)
Book One (Required): The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by: Mark Haddon
Book Two (Option 1): The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by: Sherman Alexie
Book Three (Option 2): Wonder by: R.J. Palacio
If you ordered the book through me, they will arrive on Monday and I will have them in class on Tuesday. I will let you know what you owe the school as soon as I get an invoice.
Students have reading homework for “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” this weekend but they can use the audiobook link that I posted in Google Classroom to complete this work if they don’t yet have access to the book.

Expert Day

Expert Day is a school wide event that will take place on Monday, April 30th. It is a new take on students demonstrating their interests and their work and it will take the place of International Day/Culture Day/Science Day. We have presented this idea to the Middle School students. They have a hard copy of the package that Carrie assembled for them and they also have access to it on Google Classroom as well. This is a larger project that will require students to work on each week between now and April 30th. Students can use work period time in class but it should also become a part of their homework plan.

Scientists in Schools

We had a visitor today from Scientists in Schools. The students really enjoyed the hands on experiments. Here are some photos!

HAPPY EASTER!
